Treasure Island police are looking for the owner of a cat rescued Wednesday from the Intracoastal Waterway.

Officers responded to a call from a resident, who reported a cat in distress in the waterway.

Police said a nearby roofing contractor helped them pull the cat from the water.

Police said the cat was alive and appeared to have been in the water for some time.

The cat was taken to the Animal Hospital of Treasure Island, where it is currently being cared for.

Police said the cat is a 19-pound, 3-year-old female domestic short-hair tabby. The cat did not have an identification chip or collar.

Anyone with information about the cat is asked to call the Treasure Island Police Department at 727-547-4595.
