Citrus County commissioners have decided on a plan to improve County Rd 491.

During a three-hour meeting Wednesday, commissioners voted to expand 2.6 miles of the Lecanto road from two to four lanes. Eventually, the road will expand to six lanes.

The road will be expanded from west Laurel Street to west Lee Ann Street.

The plan also includes the installation of retention ponds, a trail and sidewalk and traffic signals.

The price tag of this project ranges from $30 million to $43 million.

No timetable on the project has been released.
