Robert Tankel is a man who feels vindicated but also frustrated as he tries to clear his name.

"There's no way I can take on Google or what have you," he said. "I feel like my reputation's been destroyed."

Last year, Tankel was a volunteer Big Brother with Big Brothers Big Sisters when he was arrested and charged in June by Clearwater Police, accused of molesting one of the client children.

Nine months later, the state attorney's office announced in the letter that, "The facts and circumstances revealed do not warrant prosecution at this time."

But Tankel says, he's not ready to celebrate.

"From now on, people who Google me, they meet me, they might think this is a great guy," he said. "Kinda smart, you know, competent lawyer. Maybe I'll hire him. The first thing that pops up is my mug shot."

The mug shot and story got media coverage when the real estate lawyer was arrested.

Clearwater police say they did the right thing. In an email to Bay News 9, Chief Dan Slaughter states, "The Clearwater Police Department stands behind our rest of the suspect. We do not apologize for it."

In addition, police released the following recorded phone call Tankel made to Big Brothers Big Sisters just days before he was arrested, where he says he touched the boy on his bottom and pinched his nipple.

"What I did could possibly be interpreted as being inappropriate and I feel just horrible, and I just don't want things to get, like spiral out of control," he said.

Tankel says it was innocent horse play, out in public at a baseball game with another Big Brother present.

Although he no longer is facing charges, Tankel feels he still faces public scrutiny. And as a lawyer, that's a case he says he may never win.

"Social media last forever," he said. "Everything you say and do is on the Internet and it doesn't go away. And like what someone said, 'When a product is free like Facebook, you're the product.'"
