Tampa police say three men robbed a convenience store at gunpoint, then shot a man as they fled.

According to Tampa police, the men went into the Nebraska Food Mart on Nebraska Avenue shortly before 10 p.m.

One of the men forced Emad Alasall, 21, to open the cash register, while the second suspect went behind the counter and pistol-whipped Alasall, police said.

Tiffany Nay was there working.

“I thought for sure they were gonna kill me!” she said.

The third suspect, later identified as Wilson Lopez, 32, went into the store and started opening one of the registers, and the suspects started removing money from the registers and a safe, police said.

The suspects then ran out of the store, heading south towards Broad Street, when they encountered employee Tomas Cruz, 43, police said.

Cruz was walking towards the store when one of the suspects shot him, police said. Cruz was seriously injured, but police said he is expected to survive.

“I saved him by putting pressure on his neck, that's what the doctor said,” Nay said.

Police said one of the suspects also shot Lopez for unknown reasons, but Lopez was still able to flee. Officers found him in the area of 12th Street and Norfolk Avenue. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Lopez has outstanding warrants out of Hernando County for carjacking and grand theft auto. Police said that once he is medically cleared, he will be charged with armed robbery.

Police are still looking for the other two suspects. The first suspect is described as a black man who is 5-foot-9 and weighs about 200 pounds. He has a dark complexion, a full beard and a medium build, and he was wearing an orange hoodie.

Police said the second suspect is a black man who is 5-foot-8 and weighs about 170 pounds. He has a light complexion, dreadlocks that are three to four inches in length. He is between 19 and 22 years old, and was seen wearing a black jean jacket.
