A swimmer was rescued from a piling beneath the St. Pete Pier Friday afternoon.

According to St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue, crews were called to the Pier for a water rescue at 3:25 p.m.

When the marine units arrived at the scene, they found the young swimmer underneath the Pier, clinging to a piling. Rescue swimmers helped get him out from under the Pier and onto a boat nearby.

The swimmer was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where he underwent treatment for minor lacerations and hypothermia.

Officials said they don't know how the swimmer got out there or how long he was out there before he was rescued.
