Some local moms hit the gridiron Tuesday night with some help from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Heads Up Football initiative works with parents to make sure their child's sports experience is fun and safe.

With the game come injuries and for a mother, seeing her child not get up from a play can be frightening.

Deaisha Gray knows exactly how that feels when her teenage suffered a concussion.

“I was like, oh my goodness,” she said. “He was very nauseous, was vomiting and just, he just wasn't himself, he was looking like he was in a daze. And that just scared me a lot. And it made me like, I don't want you playing anymore.”

Instead, she joined about a hundred other mothers at One Buc Place to replace her fears with education about how to help their children be better, safer football players.

“I feel so much better about it now. It's not about how big someone is, it's just having those techniques and knowing how to play the game,” she said. “So, right now with our 10 year old, I'm like, okay he's gonna start play bigger boys. So I'm thinking, the hits are gonna get harder now. So, just to be more educated really helps me a lot.”
