A Tampa police officer shot and wounded a robbery suspect early Wednesday after a robbery attempt at a CVS store.

The wounded suspect was taken into custody, and a second suspect is being sought, according to police. According to police, the man shot and taken into custody was 29-year-old Tony C. Harrison, who has previously served time for robbery.

There were no other injuries.

The robbery attempt took place just after 1 a.m. at the CVS located on the corner of Swann and Howard avenues in the popular Soho area near downtown Tampa.

Authorities said the suspects ordered two customers out of the store and demanded money from the employees. The customers ran out of the store and called 911.

Officers arrived about 10 minutes later and fired shots at the armed suspects, one of whom was apprehended moments later about two blocks away. The second suspect managed to avoid police. Authorities said the second suspect an average built male, between the ages of 18 and 25, and was wearing all black clothing.

Police have been searching the area on foot with K-9s and by air. Harrison is in stable condition at an area hospital. Charges against him are pending. The CVS store reopened around 8 a.m.

The TPD officers involved in the shooting, Ryan Jacques, 40, and Bob Carey, 60, were placed on administrative leave, a standard procedure.

Jacques is a 12-year veteran of the department and Carey has 30 years with TPD. Carey was working extra duty for the Hyde Park neighborhood when the robbery took place.
