Two men were arrested this week in a deadly hit-and-run crash that happened in Tampa last April.

Michael Mercer, 41, of Wesley Chapel, was arrested Monday, while William S. Ridley, 47, of Tampa, was arrested on Thursday. Both men are facing charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving death.

The arrest stems from a crash that happened in the early-morning hours April 12, 2014. Investigators said Amari A. Williams was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Camaro on East Fowler Avenue when he collided with a pick-up truck driven by Mercer.

The force of the collision caused the Camaro to overturn, and Williams was ejected from the vehicle onto the road, troopers said.

Two witnesses who had stopped to help Williams saw two more vehicles hit him, troopers said, and both drivers fled the scene. Williams died at the scene.

Mercer fled the scene of the crash, but his truck was found abandoned off Fletcher Avenue a few hours later.

Later that night, investigators said Ridley, who was driving one of the two vehicles that hit Williams, contacted the Florida Highway Patrol. The following day, investigators said they identified Mercer as the driver of the pick-up truck that was involved in the initial crash.

Troopers said the first crash, involving Mercer's truck, seriously injured Williams, and that Williams was killed when he was run over the first time.

Troopers are still working to identify the fourth driver in the crash. Anyone with information regarding the driver or the vehicle is asked to call 813-631-4020.
