Herminio Mulero’s monthly visits to the hospital are what’s buying him time.

“We are doing dialysis to sustain my life right now. The machine keeps me alive,” said Herminio Mulero.

But the machine could only do so much since he has stage five kidney disease. He has been suffering from Kidney problems for the past seven years, and now is on the waiting list for kidney.

“The waiting list could take months, years you really don’t know they have to find a match,” said Mulero. While Mulero was waiting to hear back on possible matches if any, something unexpected happened. His 24-year old-daughter Felicia decided to donate her kidney to him

“They say most children only match three out of six markers, she matches four,” said Herminio’s wife, Kathleen Mulero.

The donation came as a surprise for Mulero. He had no idea his daughter, who lives in Kansas, was going through the process to help give him her kidney.

“It’s so amazing to me that I can help save my dad, I can help save a life and it’s my dad’s,” said Felicia Mulero.

She is giving him the gift of a life time and her donation brings Mulero to tears.

“I’m very thankful to have a beautiful daughter who has very compassionate heart,” said Mulero.

But despite the good news, the Muelero’s still facing another obstacle.

“We want to provide for her, we want to make sure that she feels comfortable doing this, replenish her finances,” said Kathleen Mulero.

The insurance will only cover the surgeries. Felicia who is a single mom would have to come up with travel expenses. She also wouldn’t be getting paid for medical leave since she is volunteering to give up her kidney.

The family has set up a go fund me account in hopes of raising enough money, all in hopes of giving this daughter a chance to give her father another chance at life.
