Palm Harbor motorcyclist dies in crash on U.S. 19 in Holiday

A Palm Harbor man was killed Friday night when he crashed his motorcycle into the back of a car on U.S. 19, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

John W. Somogy, 56, was traveling south on a 1976 Harley Davidson around 9:15 p.m. when he came up on a Hyundai sedan that had stopped in the outside lane for a red light at the Alternate U.S. 19 intersection.

Somogy tried to take evasive action, but was unsuccessful and ran into the car, the FHP said. He died at the scene.

The driver of the Hyundai was not injured.
