An airplane hangar adjacent to a New Port Richey home went up in flames early Monday morning.

According to Pasco County Fire Rescue, the fire broke out just after 2 a.m. at a hangar in the 8300 block of Cessna Drive. The hangar and adjacent home are in the Hidden Lakes subdivision, a gated airplane community in which homeowners have private hangars to house their planes.

The fire did not spread to the home, but the hangar was destroyed, along with the three plane fuselages (without wings) and two vehicles inside. The detached hangar is about 10 feet from the home.

"We did have some airplane fuel in the hangar, so we were concerned about that," said Pasco Fire Training Chief Shaun Whited. "The biggest challenge was that this is an older community with no fire hydrants. We had to bring in a water tanker."

The homeowners and their pets were not injured.

The fire was put out in a couple of hours.

Fire officials are investigating but say preliminary information indicates the fire was not intentionally set.
