People living near the new exit ramps off Interstate 275 are losing sleep.

"The noise is just unbearable," said Jim Jackson.

Jackson, who has lived on the same home on W. Grace Street for more than 20 years, can't even escape the traffic noise inside of his house.

He and his neighbors are calling on the Florida Department of Transportation to do something.

"My daughter, she woke up the other night. She said, 'Oh my God Mommy, I can't sleep.' So I moved her. Her room was in the front. I moved her toward the back so she could at least get some sleep," said another longtime resident, Karla Moore.

The lanes are part of the larger widening project on the interstate. Neighbors say they aren't against progress, but not at their expense.

They want FDOT to purchase their homes so they can leave the neighborhood.

"If they came and said they'd want to buy my house for a fair price, I would take it. That's how bad it is," said Jackson.

FDOT purchased several homes in the neighborhood before the project began, and knocked them down. The department was able to buy those houses because they were in the direct path of the new project. The current homes do not qualify.

However, FDOT acknowledges there is a problem.

A spokesperson says FDOT is working on a resolution, but the final outcome is unclear.

Residents are hoping that means the fight isn't over yet.
