Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor's last day on the job will be May 8.
Castor retired last year but then was hired as a contractor so she could stay for one more year.
At the time, Castor said she stayed because several experienced officers had retired - and she wanted to get the next group ready before she leaves.
Castor has been with the Tampa Police Department for 30 years
