A PSTA bus driver was injured and two people were arrested after a crash involving a bus Wednesday night in St. Petersburg.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, two men were arrested after a series of events that started just before 10 p.m. when Deputy Troy Savetz heard tires squealing in a parking lot for beach access on Gulf Boulevard at 112th Avenue in Treasure Island.

Deputy Savetz saw several people scattering and a beige 2002 Toyota striking the median in the parking lot.

Authorities said as the deputy drove into the lot and activated his emergency lights, the driver of the Toyota tried to drive off, striking the front bumper of the cruiser with the side of the Toyota as he drove out of the lot.

The Toyota then crashed into the back of a PSTA bus on Gulf Blvd. that had stopped at 108th Avenue. The two men got out of the Toyota and attempted to run off.

Deputy Savetz apprehended the driver, identified as 22-year-old Evan Lefevre, after a short foot pursuit. The passenger identified as 20-year-old Jeffrey Smith was also apprehended a short time later.

The driver of the PSTA bus, 52-year-old Zelda Robinson, was transported by ambulance to St. Pete General Hospital with neck and back injuries. No passengers on the bus were injured.

Lefevre was arrested and charged with fleeing and eluding, DUI, DUI with property damage, DUI with bodily injury, driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, leaving the scene with bodily injury and resisting arrest without violence.

The passenger, identified as 20-year-old Jeffrey Smith, was also apprehended a short time later.
