Schools statewide had computer log-on issues with FSA testing Monday.

State Education Commissioner Pam Stewart said a technical change to the computer testing change made during the weekend caused the problems.

Stephen Hegarty with Hillsborough County schools said a server issue prevented some students from being able to log on.

Officials in Pasco and Citrus counties also reported problems. Manatee school officials said they briefly experienced issues but were back up and running after a short period of time.

The issues were resolved and testing has continued.

"This morning, AIR’s President of Assessment notified me of a technical change that was made to the Florida Standards Assessment testing system over the weekend that was not approved by the Department," Stewart said. "This change was unnecessary to the administration of the Florida Standards Assessment and resulted in a disruption that hindered students from being able to log in to the system and take their test today.

"We have confirmed that the login issue has been resolved and students are currently testing; we will continue monitoring the situation. The company’s failure to follow protocol is absolutely unacceptable and the Department will hold AIR accountable for the disruption they have caused to our state’s students, teachers and school staff."

AIR released the following statement;

"AIR experienced problems this morning providing log in service for test proctors and students attempting to take their tests. The problem was resolved before 11 a.m. and proctors and students were able to sign in.  The problem stemmed from human error, and AIR is reviewing its procedures in order to prevent future events of this kind. AIR takes full responsibility for this issue and apologizes for the disruptions created this morning."

The state debuted its new testing programs in March to a series of issues. School districts around the state - including the Pinellas and Hillsborough county districts - reported problems accessing material online.
