Florida Highway Patrol troopers stopped two wrong-way drivers late Tuesday in Tampa.

One driver was arrested on DUI charges and the other was cited for driving the wrong way and causing a crash.

FHP Corporal Doug Guy spotted a 1999 Honda 4-door traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Dale Mabry Highway under Interstate 275 just after 10 p.m.

The driver of the Honda, Steven Glenn Ballard, 45 of Palm Harbor, was stopped and arrested for DUI and cited for driving in the wrong direction.

About an hour later, Trooper  Nathan Sequeira stopped a driver on Interstate 275 just south of Fowler Avenue near the University of South Florida.

The BMW stopped was driven by David Paul McGinnis, 35 of Tampa.

Moments earlier, two other vehicles had collided as they avoided the BMW, which was traveling in the wrong direction, troopers said.

While the BMW did not collide with the other two vehicles, a 2003 Volkswagen 4-door traveling in the inside lane had merged into the center lane occupied by a 2013 Nissan 4-door to avoid a crash. The Volkswagen collided with the rear of the Nissan.

Alayna Hernandez, 18 of Lutz, and Maxine Simmons, 33 of Tampa, drivers of the Volkswagen and Nissan, respectively, were both transported to Florida Hospital with minor injuries.

Officials said McGinnis was not impaired but had mistakenly turned onto the wrong ramp and entered the Interstate at Fowler Avenue traveling in the wrong direction.

He was cited for traveling in the wrong direction.
