A popular spot in the Bay area for outdoor exercise and fun is getting some national attention.

The Withlacoochee State Trail runs 46 miles through Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties. It's a popular trail and a big draw for folks near and far like Barbara Drake.

"We just knew we needed to pack our bikes," she said.

Barbara and her husband are in town from Wisconsin. They say the trail is one of their favorites in the country.

"Good scenery," she said. "Lots of little towns if you want to stop and look at things. It's a long trail and we like distance."

The folks behind a new digital magazine called Trail Traveler agree. They just named the Withlacoochee State Trail one of the top 10 trails in the nation.

It made the list for several reasons like it's suitability for most ages and all of the historical and cultural attractions along the way.

Rex McKeen owns the Riverside Restaurant and Bar right off the trail in Hernando County. He's hoping all the exposure will get people taking and bring in more business.

"I think it's the very best advertising out there," McKeen said.

Other trials that made the list are in New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Wisconsin, California and a couple of other states.
