Homeowners on Holmes Beach upset over the possibility of losing their post office boxes pressed the postal service office for answers Monday. Even their congressman weighed in on it.

Anna Maria Island is closing the boxes on Gulf Drive, meaning a lot of residents would have to push through traffic to get their mail out on time at a different location.

Congressman Vern Buchanan was at Monday’s meeting. He told the crowd his fight for them wasn't over. He plans to personally meet with the U.S. Postal Service official who will ultimately decide if their P.O. boxes stay or go.

"When you screw with someone's post office you have a real issue,” said Rep. Vern Buchanan (R) Florida. “A lot of folks here, myself included, have grown up in post offices. It's a way of life. It's a way of community.”

There are 250 boxes at the Holmes Beach location. Concerned citizens can contact the Postal Regulatory Commission.
