The Inverness City Council meets tonight to discuss forming a fire department.

According to our partner paper, the Citrus County Chronicle, the city manager says it will cost a quarter of a million dollars to start one but teaming up with the cities of Crystal River and Dunellon would cut expenses.

Inverness has until June 22nd to begin the process of forming a department or charge homeowners $54 a year for county fire protection.

A second workshop is May 14th.
