Jon Kelso, of Valrico, won big on a Florida Lottery scratch off ticket.  It was almost unbelievable he said, considering it happened on April Fool’s Day.

“I called my wife and of course, it's April Fool’s Day,” Kelso said.  “So, how do you call someone and say I just scratched off a $500,000 ticket."

Kelso bought the scratch off ticket after finding a $5 dollar bill in The Home Depot parking lot in Clearwater.  Little did he know, that $5 would turn into half-a-million at a nearby Wawa.

"I don't think anybody in the store had a clue,” Kelso said.  “Not even the cashier."

The win couldn’t have come at a better time. Kelso said he just opened his own signage and lighting business two months ago and was already hitting a rough patch.

"I started my business and I was having a run of bad luck with truck problems and little problems here and there,” Kelso said.

Now, he can get the new company off the ground the right way.  Kelso said he has no plans to stop working, other than taking this weekend off.

As for a big splurge, he said he plans to buy his wife a new car.
