Hernando County’s Public Safety Director and Fire Chief Scott Hechler has taken on additional responsibilities as the Building Division Director.
Hechler now oversees the Department of Fire/Rescue, Animal Services and the Building Division. As the public safety/building division director, he oversees nearly 300 employees. His extra duties began last week.
Hechler has a master’s degree in business administration and bachelor degrees in labor safety and health/labor studies. He also has more than 31 years of experience in public safety, with 26 years in leadership roles within local and state agencies, as well as supporting the U.S. Navy with global fire and emergency management services.
In addition, he was selected and completed executive leadership programs at Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Virginia.
