The Citrus County School District has something to brag about.

All three of the county's high schools are among the best in the United States, according to the Washington Post.

There's some magic happening in the classroom and school superintendent Sandra Himmel says their recipe is no secret.

"It goes back to great teaching and great staff in the system," she said.

The Washington Post just released its annual list of the most challenging high schools in the nation. All three Citrus County high schools - Lecanto High, Citrus High and Crystal River High - made the list.

Lecanto principal Jeff Davis is not surprised.

"We all put a great emphasis on learning," he said.

The newspaper listed the 2,000 most challenging schools out of 26,400 high schools in the nation. Lecanto High School grabbed the top spot in the county.

"Top 2 percent," Davis said. "Very, very pleased with that."

The Post looked a things like the amount of college level testing going on and graduation numbers. Lecanto senior Jordan Lee is college bound and says all the hard work will pay off.

"I'll be used to doing all the hard work," he said.

It's an impressive record for Citrus County when it comes to education.
