The city of New Port Richey is hoping to attract more visitors with a multi-use path. It would be the first one in the city.

The city recently approved Terra Tectonics Design Group to begin the design phase. The proposed path could be just the beginning of a host of paths stretching from the Pinellas Trail into New Port Richey.

The first phase will start at Marine Parkway at U.S. 19 to Grand Boulevard. The path will be 10 feet wide with new amenities that include decorative street lighting, landscaping, bus stop pads, and benches similar to the look on main street in downtown.

“We’re hoping that it creates an excitement to where everybody can utilize it and it will help out the businesses as well as show visitors what the city has to offer,” said public works director, Robert Rivera.

The city has allotted not to exceed $27,750 for the design phase that will be paid with Penny for Pasco funds.

The designs should be finished by July, at that time the city will begin bidding out the project for construction.

The project could get underway this summer. Rivera estimates the total project could cost around $400,000 to $500,000.
