A Polk County community is coming together to try and raise money for the family of a woman investigators said was killed by her husband.

On Sunday morning, friends of 34-year-old Kristin Finn held signs and washed cars at a Lakeland restaurant. They were hoping to raise money for the Lakeland mother’s four children she left behind.

“We wanted to help the family," said family friend Jennifer Maceachen. "Me personally, I don’t have the money but I have the time.”

Investigators say the Lakeland mother died after her husband, Michael Finn stabbed her last week.

Officials said at least one of those children watched as her mother’s husband stabbed her to death.

“She just said that she witnessed all of it and just saw her mom and couldn’t do anything,” said family friend, Raven Maceachen.

Raven, along with her parents and friends, are doing their part by washing cars and hoping to help this family in any way they can.

“Feels like we’re going to help her and her family to raise money and help themselves, because now her grandma’s got four kids to help,” Raven said.

Ron and Paula Cates stopped to get their car washed. They said getting a car wash is the least they can do.

“You never know when it’s going to be somebody that you know -- real close, and I’m sure the family is grieving right now and anything that can help out, we’re always trying to do that for the community,” Ron Cates said.

The investigation into the murder of the Lakeland mother is still ongoing.

Michael Finn is facing first-degree murder charges.
