A line-of-sight issue on Gunn Highway in Citrus Park is confusing drivers.

Southbound traffic on Gunn Highway intending to turn left at Sheldon Road must first pass the traffic signal at Shoppes at Citrus Drive.  It's directly across from the main entrance at Sickles High School.

It's at the this intersection where the confusion happens.

Carol Norman, Practice Manager at Norman Dermatology explains the confusion.

"When they get into the turn lane to go...they think, I believe, they're going straight to the next set of turn lanes," Norman said.

The first two lanes at Gunn and Shoppes at Citrus Drive are marked as a left turn only and a through only lane respectively, yet traffic in the turn only lane continually cuts back to the right after realizing the lane they're in doesn't go where they want to go.

"You know, when we hear it or we hear the brakes of something like that, you know, we all kind of hold our breath and hope that it's not going to be the accident," Norman said.

A concrete raised median keeps traffic in the left lane from continuing forward.

County Traffic Engineer Bob Campbell says Hillsborough County officials will install some new overhead signs to help sort ouf the difference between the two sets of signals.

"As an option we will add signs to help the Drivers to be in the correct lanes.  We will monitor the traffic operations after those are installed to see if they improve Driver actions.
