A carjacking victim is lucky he wasn’t hurt while police continue to search for the suspects.

Tampa Police say Edgardo Luis Cruz Medina, 36, was getting gas at the Sunoco on West Waters Avenue Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the suspects walked up to the victim's car as he went inside to pay.

Surveillance video shows one of the suspects opening the driver’s door, while another suspect tried the passenger door.

Medina saw the suspects and confronted the second suspect, who ran away. Medina grabbed a garbage can and threw it at the vehicle. The suspect drove forward, hit the victim and drove off with the victim on the hood of the car.

Police say the suspect drove about 200 feet and stopped, and Medina was able to get off of the car.

Medina was not injured. The suspect made a U-turn, picked up the other suspect and drove off.

The stolen car is described as a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu with Florida temporary tag BJQ8040.
