A Pasco County early head start teacher is leaving the job.

Pre-K teacher Brenda Roberts' started teaching 40 years ago, and her unique teaching style has left a lasting impression on many of her students.

“I love kids, this is my joy,” said Ms. Roberts.

Her love for teaching has left a lasting impression on Trinette Washington, who was one of Roberts’ first students in the 70s.

“She was heartwarming, always comforting, easy to talk to,” said Washington.

Roberts’ unique style of teaching is what Washington says brought her back to school as a social worker. The former student is now co-workers with her favorite teacher at Rodney B. Cox Elementary.

“It makes me feel good to see her here,” said Ms. Roberts.

But the reunion won’t be for long. This year is Roberts’ last year of teaching. For Washington, it’s an emotional departure.

“I know I’m going to miss her, her smile, her talks, I watch her from the door when she lets the kids in,” said Washington.

Roberts says she is leaving on a happy note. She says the impact she left on students like Washington is her true reward.

Next month, Ms. Roberts will be recognized by the school for her outstanding teach efforts. The staff plans to throw her a retirement party.

Her last day is June 5.
