In a repeat of Memorial Day, showers and thunderstorms developed in the Bay area this evening.

According to Bay News 9 meteorologist Brian McClure, massive storms formed along coastal regions due to an east wind slamming into our sea breeze. Here are a few points about tonight's weather to take note:

  • Tonight felt more like July.
  • Heaviest rain in Pasco, Hillsborough, northern Pinellas, western Citrus, and western Hernando County.
  • Rainfall amounts between 1 and 5 inches.
  • Localized flooding in many areas, especially western Pasco, northern Hillsborough and western Hernando County.
  • There were some funnel clouds and a couple waterspouts over Tampa Bay, but we didn’t get any visuals because they were all obscured by heavy rain.
  • The lightning was intense with thousands of strikes that went on for hours well into the night.
  • All the storms had a slow northwest movement toward the Gulf.

The rain chances will fall off in the coming days, though. The Bay News 9 weather team puts the rain probability at only 10 percent Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
