Florida Fish and Wildlife officers are investigating the hanging of a dead alligator from an I-10 overpass in north Florida.

According to the FWC, an approximately 8-foot long alligator was killed early the morning of May 8 and then hung by a steel chain from the Birchwood Road overpass. Around 4 a.m., a motorist traveling west on I-10 struck the hanging gator, causing extensive damage to the vehicle.

The FWC is asking that anyone with information about the incident to call its wildlife alert hotline at 888-404-3922 or text Tip@MyFWC.com. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for info.

It is unlawful to kill, injure, possess or capture a alligator unless authorized by the rules of the FWC.
