Give Day Tampa Bay is raising more than a million dollars for hundreds of non-profit organizations in the area.

One of the groups benefiting is the Animal Coalition of Tampa. It provides low-cost veterinary services to people like Dale Chandler.

Chandler is disabled and on a fixed income. He said surgery for his dogs at many vet's offices was simply too expensive.

"The comfort is to know what the medical issues are," said Chandler. "Just like your child, you would want to know and you would want to have that taken care of. That's important to me and I believe it's important to them."

Since an arson fire destroyed their main building, the Animal Coalition has been struggling.

They are having to operate out of different buildings.

Check-ups and wellness exams take place in a portable at one location, while surgeries and the shot clinic take place at another rented building several blocks away.

"It's difficult," said Karen Hubby with the Animal Coalition of Tampa. "The people that work in the clinic daily go back and forth and it's a long day for them and we're limited in what we can do."

They're trying to raise enough money to buy a permanent building so they can help as many animals as possible.

"We hear story after story of 'I didn't have any money and you saved my dog,'" said Hubby.

Chandler said he was pleased with the care his dogs received.

"When I see a facility such as this and I experience that quality of care, I'm impressed," he said. "I want that and I'll come back."
