Doug Hughes made name for himself last month when he flew his gyrocopter onto the grounds of Capitol Hill.

Now the Ruskin man is finding support from others, not for his stunt, but for his cause to establish campaign finance reform.

A group of supports stopped by his home Tuesday evening to stand by the man. He’s currently under house arrest on federal charges.

“What Doug has been able to do is, he’s taken this issue from the activist community to the general public,” said supporter Rae Claire Johnson.

Hughes says he’s busier than ever now, answering emails, doing Skype and radio talk show interviews.

“I said what a lot of people are saying, from a little bit higher platform," Hughes said. "And what I think is gonna happen from here, is we're gonna see a lot of people who haven't been previously involved, recognize that things they believe in aren't gonna get done until this gets done.”

Hughes’ next court hearing is set for May 21 in Washington.
