A Gibsonton man died Monday night after a crash in heavy rush hour traffic on Gibsonton Drive, authorities said.
Shawn A. Barker, 28, was traveling east on Gibsonton Drive around 5:14 p.m. and passing traffic backed up from the U.S. 301 intersection.
At the intersection of Mathog Drive, he ignored the right-turn-only signal and signs and drove his 1994 Honda Civic into a westbound 2008 Nissan Altima as it was turning left, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
Barker was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he later died.
The driver of the Altima, Okhiaofe Mary Awobusuyi, 39, of Riverview suffered minor injuries.
