With their bus robbed and passports stolen, a group of Pasco County high school students was briefly stranded in Honduras.

The group flew to Honduras a week ago to install water filtration systems in homes as part of Pure Water For the World.

A day before they were scheduled to return home, thieves robbed their bus. At least two students had their passports taken during the robbery.

But the group averted complications and returned home on a flight to Tampa International Airport late Monday night.

By Monday afternoon, the American embassy in Honduras granted the teens emergency passports. The trip organizers and two other teen volunteers stayed in the country to make sure everyone returned safety.

"We just ran into some bad luck on the next to last day," said trip leader Dane Parilo. "We had a non-confrontational robbery."

The group said they were not overly concerned and had faith it would all work out.

"Our work was a complete success," Parilo said. "This is a group of people that rise above other people that stand out."
