A Bay area couple is taking the term super fan to a whole new level. They plan on naming their unborn child after Tampa Bay Lightning player, Ben Bishop.

Dakota Freeman and his girlfriend, Erin McCall says they’ve only been fans for a couple of months but watching Bishop play, convinced them to name their baby, Bishop after him.

“My son is going to be born in 2015. I’m in Tampa. It’s my first time watching hockey getting into it and they’re taking us to the Stanley Cup. It’s all a coincidence? I don’t think so, so we decided to name him Bishop,” said father-to-be, Dakota Freeman.

They say it took nine months to decide on a name and this is what they came up with.

“I’ve always felt like at the last minute the perfect name was going to come through and he was taking a nap the other day, woke up and was like I’ve got it, I’ve got it, Bishop and I really like the name,” McCall said.

And when asked why they chose Bishop and not another player the couple said it wasn’t an easy decision.

“We actually liked Tyler Johnson also but we already have a 16-year-old named Tyler,” Freeman said.

So, they went with the player who they say represents what they want their son to represent.

“It’s something about the way he plays the way he defends his team and the way they stick up for him. That’s what I want for my son. I want him to be a leader in no matter what he does,” Freeman said.

The couple’s due date is this Monday. The baby’s full name will be Bishop Hugh Freeman. His crib is already decked out in Lightning gear and the couple is searching for an infant Lightning jersey. They’re hoping the naming of their baby will be sort of a good luck charm for Ben Bishop and the Lightning.
