Carol Pinkston was not allowed in her home at the Vantage Point condos Tuesday morning.

St. Petersburg police investigators were searching through her home as part of the investigation into her husband Paul, who was arrested Monday and accused of being the man who robbed two real estate agents last week.

Paul, 58, appeared before a judge Tuesday afternoon. His bond was set at $300,000.

Detectives arrested Paul J. Pinkston, 58, around 6 p.m. on Monday after watching him throughout the day and following him to his home on 10200 Gandy Boulevard.

Pinkston, an Air Force veteran, has been charged with one count armed robbery and one count kidnapping with a deadly weapon.

Married to Paul for 36 years, Carol said she believes her husband is innocent as police carried bags out evidence out of their home.

On Monday, authorities said one of Pinkston's neighbors recognized him in surveillance video released by the police. Pinkston was armed at the time of the arrest, according to police.

Two female real estate agents were robbed, and one tied up, in two separate showings last week.

According to police, Pinkston called real estate agents last week, said his name was Robert Evans and that he was interested in buying a home.

When he arrived to meet the agent, he pulled a gun and robbed one of them, police said. Seeing another home later, Pinkston is accused of zip tying the agent before calling her husband and demanding a $50,000 ransom.

Neither woman was injured in the attacks.

The videos of Pinkston released by police came from a local Walmart and a home neighboring one of the homes where he met and allegedly robbed a real estate agent. Authorities said the surveillance video also captured Pinkston's car, a silver Nissan Murano.

Officials are still trying to identify a motive in the robberies, and are asking the public's help.

“Certainly to make that kind of ransom demand, and to use a level of violence, and fear to carry it out, makes us believe he has some desperate need for money,” said Jim Previtera, Assistant Chief St. Pete Police.

Pinkston's lawyer Lee Pearlman said there's no proof his client did anything wrong.

“This is a highly circumstantial case. Mr. Pinkston has no prior criminal record. He is a retired major in the United States Air Force,” he said.

The silver Nissan Murano which matched the vehicle description in the robberies has been impounded.
