The murder trial of the man accused of fatally shooting a man in a Pasco County theater has been delayed until January.

Circuit Judge Pat Siracusa said Tuesday that the trial for Curtis Reeves will not start until January 11, 2016.

Reeves, a 72-year-old retired Tampa police captain, is facing second-degree murder charges in the death of Chad Oulsen.

According to authorities, Reeves and Oulsen argued over text messaging before a movie in a Wesley Chapel movie theater in January 2014.

Officials said Reeves shot and killed Oulsen in the theater. The shooting also hurt Oulsen's widow Nicole, who was shot in the hand.

Reeves has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge and a aggravated battery charge, saying he fired his gun in self-defense.

The trial had been set to start this summer.
