A 75-pound dog was attacked and presumably killed by an alligator in the Hillsborough River Sunday evening.

Police received a call shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday from a witness reporting a woman was in the Hillsborough River near the dam at Rowlett Park yelling about an alligator.

When officers arrived they found and rescued 29-year-old Natasha Lee from the water.

Police learned a 3-year-old black Lab named Haze had chased a bird into the river. During that time, a large alligator attacked Haze and dragged the dog under water.

Lee was not injured. Haze and the alligator have not been located.

Trappers were called to the scene to search for the gator.
