A crash involving a semi and a car caused traffic on northbound I-75 to back up for several miles Friday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Jesus Manul Jimenez Ramos, 37, of Tampa, was driving a 2013 semi north on I-75 at 5:39 a.m. when he lost control of the truck.

The semi left the road and collided with a 2014 Volkswagen Passat driven by Jesika Samudio Amor, 42, of Lithia, troopers said. The semi and the car both hit the outside guardrail, then slid down the shoulder embankment.

Ramos and Amor were both taken to Tampa General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Traffic is backed up for several miles while crews pull the vehicles up from the embankment. Drivers are asked to seek alternate routes.

Ramos was ticketed for failure to use due care.

Troopers said heavy rains and wet conditions played a role in the crash as well.
