A man died Thursday afternoon from injuries he sustained in a single-vehicle crash in St. Petersburg.

Akeen Flanning, 30, was driving west at a high rate of speed on First Avenue N at about 4:30 a.m. when his 2003 Mitsubishi Montero veered off the road and crashed into a tree, police said.

Flanning, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. He was pronounced dead later that afternoon.

Police said Flanning may have been suffering from fatigue at the time of the crash. Alcohol and drugs were not a factor
