Winter Haven Police are looking for three suspects who robbed a 73-year-old man as he pulled into his driveway on Wednesday night.

According to police, the man pulled into his driveway on 4th Street NE around 11 p.m. when he saw a man standing near his house holding a stick.

"I heard him say, 'That's him, coming up' and he broke and ran," said the man who has asked not to be identified since the suspects haven't been caught.

He said the next thing he knew, three men pulled him out of his car, reached into his pockets and grabbed some cash.

He said they punched him, kicked him and beat him with a stick before running away.

"If I could have gotten into my house and gotten my shotgun I know what I would have done," the man said.

The man's girlfriend called 911 after finding him on the ground hours later.

Police fear the suspects are targeting the elderly and people with disability money.

"It indicates a sense of urgency. We are going to make certain we get these guys no matter what," said Jaime Brown with the Winter Haven Police Department.

The man is going to be OK.

He credits two things with helping him survive.

"Just a strong old man. I didn't panic or nothing like I worried about because see I've got a pacemaker in my heart. Maybe it and the Lord kept me alive," he said.

Police said they are offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case.

They are asking anyone with information to call Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS (8477).
