Cloudy skies remain throughout the Bay area after a day of active thunderstorms.

What you need to know tonight:

  • Storms are over for most of the Bay area, with the exception of some showers in Polk County
  • Expect mostly cloudy/muggy conditions this evening
  • There's still a slight chance of thunderstorms redeveloping overnight

There are however still some shower activity in Polk County. 

This evening with be mostly cloudy and muggy with a slight chance of thunderstorms redeveloping. The slight chance of storms continues overnight.

Strong thunderstorms formed just after noon and continued to move inland in a line from North-Central Florida to the West-Central Gulf Coast before ending around 5 p.m.

Thunderstorm winds downed trees and tree limbs in Wesley Chapel around 1:45 p.m. on Thursday.

A few spots in Pasco and Polk Counties got around 2” of rain Thursday.

The strongest storms produced very frequent lightning and small hail. Gusty winds to 40 mph were reported. 

Scattered thunderstorms will develop again tomorrow, as early as noon and push inland.  With slightly better moisture, rain chances increase to 40 percent Friday and 50 percent Saturday.

It will be hot and humid during the day, warm and muggy at night.

The biggest hazard weather-wise for the long holiday weekend will be the threat of lightning. Remember, when the thunder roars, go indoors.
