Tropical showers and storms moved east across the area on Thursday.

Even though the showers were mainly small in size and moved fairly quickly, they were able to dump a decent amount of rain in a short time.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Flood Watch is effect for Citrus, Hernando Counties until Saturday.
  • Showers and storms will continue to pop up in the Gulf
  • Ideal conditions for heavy rain on Friday and into the weekend

Showers and storms will continue to pop up in the Gulf and will move onshore. They will start to increase, especially for Citrus and Hernando Counties, just before daybreak.

High pressure will remain south of Florida through the weekend as a frontal trough now stationary across the southeastern U.S. slips south into Central Florida.

Here are some places that received more than 1 inch of rain Thursday:

  • Wesley Chapel  1.15
  • New Tampa  1.00
  • Tampa Executive Airport   2.36
  • East Tampa  1.43
  • Davis Islands  1.68
  • Apollo Beach  1.52
  • Waverly  1.14

Abundant tropical moisture within a deep layered westerly wind flow off the Gulf of Mexico between these two features will keep rain chances quite high across all of West Central Florida through the weekend.

The deep layered moisture and an upper level trough developing over our area will create ideal conditions for efficient heavy rain making within thunderstorms on Friday and into the weekend. A Flood Watch is in effect for Citrus and Hernando Counties for Friday into Saturday.
