Two people were injured in a three-vehicle crash involving a deputy in Pinellas Park on Thursday.

According to investigators, Deputy Ian Collman was driving a marked Chevy Impala just before 6 p.m. and was stopped in heavy rush hour traffic in the westbound lanes of Gandy Boulevard.

Also stopped behind him was the driver of a 2014 Chevy Camaro, deputies said.

The driver of a 2003 Dodge Ram was traveling westbound on Gandy Blvd. approaching the stopped traffic and failed to slow down his vehicle, causing him to crash into the rear of the Camaro.

The impact caused the Camaro to vault forward and crash into the rear of the patrol car, deputies said.

The driver of the Camaro, identified as 56-year-old Karen Papke, was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Deputy Collman was also transported to a local hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, identified as 32-year-old Robert Phillips, was not injured during the crash.

Neither speed nor impairment appear to be factors in the crash, deputies said.
