A candlelight vigil was held for India Clarke, the transgender woman who was killed outside a Tampa community center.

More than 100 people filled Gaslight Park in downtown Tampa for in Clarke's memory.

Clarke's bruised body was found near the basketball courts near the University Area Community Center on Tuesday morning. Although her killer has not been found, India's mother is finding some comfort in seeing such a large crowd fend off the weather to remember her daughter.

"I know she had a lot of friends, but I didn't know she had this many, but this really makes me happy that she really had a lot of friends that love her," said mother Thelma Clarke.

Many fear she was killed because of her transgender identity. For a transgender community, it's a painful reminder of how dangerous they feel being open about their sexual identity can be.

"Violence is happening both from civilians and also police brutality and so I fear for my safety and I fear for everybody's safety," said vigil organizer Gianna Love.

If you have any information you're asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
