Thunderstorms started to develop Sunday afternoon and intensified with the sea breeze.

Storms contained heavy downpours, gusty winds, frequent lightning, and small hail.

Inverness Airport reported a peak wind gust of 46 mph.

Dime-sized hail was reported in St. Leo, Dade City, New Tampa and Thonotosassa.

Wind damage to shingles and outdoor furniture was also reported in the New Tampa area.

There were reports of 56 mph winds in Plant City and power lines and trees down in Dade City. Tampa Electric reported power outages in the Plant City and Fishhawk area due to a downed tree and limbs.

A buoy just east of Pinellas Point reported a 46 mph wind gust Sunday evening.

Rain is expected to taper off in a few hours.

The week ahead looks like a typical July forecast with scattered storms expected every single day, mainly afternoon and evening time.

The only variation each day will be the coverage of storms going up or down slightly and the subtle change in the sea breeze resulting in where the best chance of storms will end up.

Otherwise you can expect highs near the low 90s for much of the week ahead with about 40 to 50 percent coverage of storms each day.

The overnight periods will be mainly quiet as is typical in this summer pattern. Morning lows will be in the mid to upper 70’s, warmest near the beach and coolest inland.
