There have been numerous thunderstorms across the area today. 

Some have been heavy but nothing severe. 

Rainfall in downtown St. Petersburg was 1.5” from an isolated storm.  

What you need to know:

  • The rain chance is 50 percent.
  • Some heavy rain and strong wind gusts are expected with the thunderstorms today.
  • High temperatures will be in the low 90s this afternoon.

Mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue this evening.

For this afternoon, the west coast sea breeze has pushed inland quickly over the Nature Coast and will be pinned closer to the coast farther south into southwest Florida.

The best coverage of showers and storms will be around the I-75 corridor but outflow boundaries will lead to additional storms elsewhere especially into the evening where the east coast sea breeze takes over and pushes the storms back towards the coast.

Storms will then come to an end tonight with the loss of day time heating and expect most of the area to remain dry overnight and into tomorrow morning with just isolated showers and storms out over the Gulf.


An upper-level low will move from the Bahamas toward Cuba midweek, while deep layer high pressure will dominate across the southeast.

Wednesday morning will have partly cloudy skies. Showers and thunderstorms will become numerous in the afternoon and evening.

Wednesday's rain chance is 60 percent.
