A man is recovering today after he was shot by Pasco County deputies Monday evening.

The sheriff’s office says 56-year-old Frank Rogers brought a rifle to his neighbor’s home and threatened her last night and when they showed up, he pointed the gun at them. Investigators said it all started over a neighbor dispute.

When Theresa Poligo heard a loud knock on her door Monday she never expected to see her neighbor, who lives directly behind in her, standing there in a rage.

“He had the gun over here like this behind him, so I didn't see the gun when I initially opened the door,” said Poligo.

Poligo said once she opened the door she tried to fight off Rogers and eventually was able to shut the door on him, but says he wouldn’t let up.

“It was like pow, pow, pow, then boom, boom and boom,” said Poligo describing the pounding on her door.

Poligo’s neighbor, Michelle Whatley, heard Poligo scream for help and came face to face with Rogers herself.

“I said well I don’t know what’s going on let’s talk about it, he had the gun in his hand and he kept saying ‘I’m just going to kill her, her cat, you know what she’s done to me?’ I said I don’t know anything, what’s going on,” said Whatley.

Poligo was able to call 911 and when deputies arrived they said Rogers pointed the gun at them.

“That’s when I went down to the ground and crawled into the kitchen and then pop, pop, pop, a lot of gun fire,” said Poligo.

Poligo said she and Rogers have had arguments in the past regarding her cats but she never expected this.

“I’m just very sad for him and his partner,” she said.

Rogers is still in the hospital and is expected to be OK.

Both homes have had calls for service from law enforcement but neither Poligo nor Rogers have faced charges for any of those calls.

Rogers is being charged with armed burglary, aggravated assault, and two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
