The Tampa Bay area's new Bass Pro Shops is in the midst of its grand opening, and it's drawing big crowds this weekend.

The outdoors super store opened Wednesday and many shoppers are getting their first chance to check it out.

About 120 million people visit Bass Pro stores in the United States and Canada every year. the average shopper stays at the store for 2 1/2 hours and drives an average of 50 miles to get there, according to the store's Missouri-based parent company.

The 130,000-plus-square-foot store features supplies for hunting, shooting, boating, camping, outdoors clothing, shoes and boots and home and gifts. It's more than a store, though, also offering such unusual features as fishing ponds, taxidermy displays, boat showrooms and a 7,000-square-foot Islamorada fish Co. restaurant and bar.

Doors opened at 9 a.m. Saturday to the center, located at 10501 Palm River Road. Regular store hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. through 8 p.m.

Bass Pro Shops is one of two major new draws for the Brandon area. The nearby Top Golf entertainment complex also opened within the last year.
