Passenger traffic at St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport continues to increase - as do the number of potential destinations for travelers.
The airport reported its third month of record-breaking traffic this summer. The 173,734 passengers who passed through the airport in July marked the most in airport history and a 50 percent increase over the same month in 2014.
According to airport officials, St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport has had a 31 percent increase in traffic during the first seven months this year - 31 percent domestic and 22 percent international.
This has happened even though the airport's primary carrier, Allegiant Air, has had a host of problems.
But Allegiant continues to grow. The Las Vegas-based carrier added three new routes in May and by November will offer nonstop service to 47 cities from PIE.
On Tuesday, the airline said it would begin offering service to Appleton, Wisc., Scranton, Pa., and Kansas City in November. Perviously announced new Service to Memphis starts Oct. 1.
