Residents in one part of Tampa can't even get into their homes because of a collapsed road.

City officials are scrambling to get things fixed at Westshore and Sunset.

Residents at Regency Cove watched as the road leading into their neighborhood caved in.

It all started when the city cleaned out a drainage canal to help alleviate flooding on Gandy and Westshore boulevards. But when the water started flowing, the heavy pressure forged a new path, taking the road with it.

"We were watching out the window when we saw the fence start to go," said Paula Hayes, "and then the land went as well."

Hayes lives right on the edge of the property, which is now receding. She can hear the creaking of her back fence.

"We are really nervous because, oh my God, look it's going even further and the next panel is in our backyard and if it just keeps on going then it's the land and then our house,” she said.

The private road owned is owned by Regency Cove residents. The president of the HOA says he will call the insurance company in the morning and in the meantime the main entrance will remain closed off.
